Oil Change Intervals

	Engine Oil ~ 12,000 miles.
	Mineral Based ATF ~ 18,000 miles.
	Semi-Synthetic Base ~ 36,000 miles.
	Synthetic Base ~ 50,000 miles.

	ZF Ecofluid ~ 50,000 - 75,000 miles.*

The previous one-time "break-in" oil drain & filter change at 600 miles is no longer needed.

The Ecomat uses only one internal transmission filter (about $25) that is changed with each oil drain. Bolt holes to access this filter have steel reinforced threads.

ZF Maintenance Innovations - Engine Oil in Transmissions

	Straight Weight & Multi-Viscosity can be used.
	Helps in heavy vibration applications.
	Typically lowers wear metals.
	Caution: Engine oil does not have the sheer stability of ATF; 12,000 mile oil change interval is required.
	Caution: Engine oil does not expand like ATF; watch out for over-fill situations.
	Caution: Special start-up practices for use in areas that freeze; <0º F- start vehicle every 2 hours & run 15 min.s; <32º F- run vehicle 15 min.s; thick oil can cause pump cavitation on start-up.

ZF Maintenance Guidelines - Oil Sample Limits

Wear Metals Guidelines

	Fe (iron) - 200 ppm
	Al (aluminum) - 150 ppm
	Cu (copper) - 500 ppm without "G" Clutch

Contaminant Limits

	Glycol - 0% None Allowed
	Water - 0.5% by Volume

Oxidation Limits - Total Acid Number (TAN)

	2.0 up to 2.5 (change oil)
	2.5 up to 3.0 (flush once)
	greater than 3.0 (flush twice)

These limits apply to all types of oil. Use the wear metal values as a guideline to flag a possible internal situation. Determination to remove a unit for repair should be based an oil analysis history.
